Overview
Occupying the top six floors of the Otemachi Tower, Aman Tokyo is an architectural masterpiece that reinterprets the traditional Japanese residence in a vertical format. Designed by Kerry Hill, the hotel is centered around a soaring lobby that mimics the interior of a giant "shoji" paper lantern. The design uses basalt stone, cypress wood, and washi paper to create a "sanctuary in the sky" that feels detached from the metropolis below. It represents a radical departure from the cluttered luxury of Western skyscrapers, instead celebrating the Japanese concept of "Ma"—the beauty of empty space—within the heart of the world’s most populous city.
