Overview

Set on 600 acres in the high desert of Southern Utah, Amangiri is a landmark of "invisible architecture." Completed in 2009 and designed by a trio of architects—Rick Joy, Wendell Burnette, and Marwan Al-Sayed—the resort is built from a custom concrete mix that matches the exact color and texture of the surrounding Jurassic-era sandstone. The design is inspired by ancient Navajo and Hopi dwellings, with low-slung, angular blocks that tuck into the base of a 165-million-year-old rock escarpment. The centerpiece is a swimming pool that wraps around a massive natural rock outcropping, creating a profound, elemental connection to the landscape of the Colorado Plateau.
