Overview

Built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II as a summer pleasure palace, this white marble structure occupies an entire four-acre island in the center of Lake Pichola. Originally known as Jag Niwas, the palace was designed to face east, allowing inhabitants to pray to the Sun God at dawn. The architecture is an ethereal example of Rajput artistry, featuring scalloped arches, inlaid stones, and interior courtyards filled with fountains and lotus ponds. It gained global fame as the setting for the Bond film Octopussy and remains the world's most famous "floating" heritage hotel.
