Overview

While it looks like a fortified Apulian village that has stood for centuries, Borgo Egnazia was actually completed in 2010. It is a masterpiece of "neorealism" architecture, constructed entirely out of local tufo (white limestone) and hand-cut stones. Designed by local architect Pino Brescia, the property is a tribute to the rural traditions of Puglia, featuring a maze of narrow streets, squares, and a central "Borgo." It was built to feel ancient and spiritual, echoing the nearby archaeological site of Egnazia. The property has single-handedly redefined luxury in Southern Italy, shifting the focus from gold leaf to raw, monochromatic Mediterranean earthiness.
