Overview
Founded in 1887 by the Sarkies Brothers, Raffles is perhaps the most famous colonial-era hotel in the world. Named after Singapore’s founder, Sir Stamford Raffles, the hotel evolved from a small 10-room bungalow into a sprawling neoclassical icon. It was here that Rudyard Kipling wrote "The Jungle Book" and where the last wild tiger in Singapore was famously shot under the Billiard Room. Following a massive 2019 restoration, the "Grand Old Lady" has maintained her pristine white facade and tropical courtyards, standing as a national monument that remains the undisputed center of Singaporean heritage and high society.
