Overview

Completed in 1999, the Burj Al Arab is perhaps the most recognizable hotel in the world. Designed by architect Tom Wright to mimic the sail of a "dhow" (a traditional Arabian vessel), it stands on a man-made island 280 meters from Jumeirah Beach. The interior, designed by Khuan Chew, is a vibrant explosion of color and gold leaf, featuring a soaring atrium that is the tallest in the world. It was the first hotel to successfully brand itself as "7-star," serving as the architectural catalyst that transformed Dubai into a global luxury destination.

Why We Recommend

The world’s only "7-star" hotel remains an architectural marvel of the 21st century. We recommend it for its unapologetic grandeur—from the 24-karat gold leaf interiors to the spectacular "Terrace" that floats over the Gulf, offering the most iconic pool day in Dubai.
