Overview
The Setai is a masterful architectural dialogue between Miami’s Art Deco heritage and the Zen-like serenity of the Far East. The property centers on a restored 1936 landmark building, originally the Dempsey-Vanderbilt Hotel designed by Henry Hohauser. In 2005, designers Jean-Michel Gathy and Jaya Ibrahim expanded the site, incorporating a 40-story residential tower and infusing the space with "Art Deco Fusion." Notable for using grey antique bricks transported from Shanghai and pavers from palaces in Beijing, the hotel’s design acts as a bridge between the two great Art Deco hubs of the world, creating a sanctuary of bronze, tropical timber, and dark stone.
